Phishing is a scheme of Internet hackers who pretend to be a legitimate financial institution or credit card company through "official-looking" emails to trick consumers into sending them personal and/or financial information.
CMAR Credit Union will NEVER request confidential financial information or personal data by email. Here are some tips to avoid getting hooked by phishing:
- Don't reply or click links in emails that ask for personal or financial information.
- Review all financial statements as soon as you receive them.
- Be careful about opening attachments or downloading any files from emails.
- Before submitting financial information through a website, look for the "lock" icon on the browser's status bar to confirm a secure transmission.
- Treat all email with suspicion.
Contact us as soon as possible to report any suspicious emails claiming to be from CMAR Credit Union. For system security, do not forward the suspicious email, but provide details in a new email.
